As part of the national Disabled Access Day on Saturday 12 March, Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) is running a family drop in workshop from 11am to 3pm. Children and adults with disabilities are encouraged to take part, particularly those with a hearing impairment.

A BSL interpreter will be available on the day and can give an informal tour of the current exhibition Soil Culture : Young Shoots. The interpreter working together with Education Ranger Penny Evans will guide families through making their own birdfeeder to take home. They can make a ‘corn dolly-style’ fat feeder as well as seed and peanut feeders from recycled materials.

Commenting on THG’s involvement with Disabled Access Day, Angela Blackwell, THG Curator said:

“We would like to welcome everyone to join in with this workshop. This is a great way for people with a disability to learn about the exhibition and enjoy this family activity. The gallery and garden are both access friendly”.

Disabled Access Day is a nationwide event that encourages disabled people to visit somewhere with friends and/or family that they’ve never been before. The event takes place on 12^th March and already over 200 organisations have signed up to get involved in the day. The day is sponsored by Euan’s Guide, the disabled access review website and app, and has the support of VisitScotland, VisitEngland and Visit Wales.

This workshop coordinates with THG’s current exhibition.  Soil Culture: Young Shoots (27 February – 9 April) explores the secret word of soil in collaboration with CCANW (Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World).
