Details
A multidisciplinary project created in partnership with East Devon AONB, which explored the East Devon coastline, involving contemporary art and artists.
The project revisited the work of local Victorian antiquarian Peter Orlando Hutchinson, who painted many well-known East Devon scenes. The artists worked with coastal communities, schools, Sidmouth Museum and boatbuilder/storyteller Gail McGarva.
Story Boat : this project took its inspiration from local Victorian antiquarian Peter Orlando Hutchinson and his diary sketches of fishing boats and beached whales in the 19th century. THG worked with Gail McGarva and her Story Boat to bring to life the heritage of East Devon coastal communities, including Beer, Branscombe and Sidmouth. Gail and her storyboat visited schools and communities along the Jurassic Coast delivering activities. Participants were be able to climb aboard and hear her story, handle the mysterious objects housed inside and write and create their own responses.

Well Trodden Wrong Ways (14 September - 26 October 2019) was the culmination of Tree to Sea. Photographer Paul Blakemore and artist Jo Lathwood investigated and documented the cultural, social and geological landscape of East Devon's Jurassic coast. The exhibition included drawings, sculpture, photography and film, it was an invitation to navigate this remarkable World Heritage Site, unearthing untold stories. From crumbling rock formations, endangered moths, unusual architecture, and unknown histories, the new commissions questionned how our choices impact upon us, others and our environment.
