People across Devon have backed Thelma Hulbert Gallery (THG) to help it come top in a national public vote to work with acclaimed British artist Luke Jerram.

THG beat off stiff competition from major national venues : 20-21 Visual Arts Centre-Scunthorpe, The Lightbox-Woking, Brunel’s SS Great Britain-Bristol and Gloucester City Museum and Art Gallery. In the end it came down to just six votes!

THG has now won the opportunity to bring Luke Jerram to the gallery to lead an amazing installation in the national Museums At Night Festival (Friday 30 – Saturday 31 October 2015.)

“This is so exciting for THG and will give us a great opportunity to bring such a prestigious event to Devon. We were overwhelmed by the response to our call-out for votes and would like to thank everyone who voted, your support is really appreciated”, said Angela Blackwell – THG Curator.

Luke Jerram’s plan is to install a thousand clocks throughout the gallery. Donated by visitors, local businesses, community groups, school children and families, these timepieces will transform the space visually and the ticking of the clocks will be amplified. There is also a plan to project a clock face onto the side of the 200 year old Georgian building.

Not only will the gallery run a late night event as part of the festival but they plan to keep the exhibition open for several days and run a series of accompanying activities.

Luke Jerram, is an internationally renowned artist, with work exhibited throughout the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He is well known in the South West for his installation “Park & Slide” in Bristol last year.
