THG unveils exciting plans for refurbishment

Published on:
17 December 2024

The gallery will temporarily close from 25 December 2024 until 22 March 2025 for a long overdue refurbishment of our gallery spaces.

This is to allow essential repairs to the gallery, improvements to the gallery spaces, incorporate a dedicated new space for volunteers and improved toilet facilities.

This temporary closure will not affect THG's award-winning engagement programme with schools and community groups, which will continue at offsite locations across East Devon. The gallery has recently been awarded a grant from Arts Council England for its Create Our Space project working with young people with a particular focus on the towns of Axminster, Honiton and Exmouth.

The gallery will reopen in March with Sensing the Planet, a key new exhibition by Ashish Ghadiali, a prolific artist and curator of art that speaks to the environmental crisis and racial inequity. The exhibition has been built out of a public programme and brings together work from institutions across the South West including Dartington Hall, the Box in Plymouth and Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter as well as London institutions, the Serpentine and the South Bank Centre.

This will be followed in May by a much-anticipated exhibition of the photography of James Ravilious, revealing an intimate portrait of rural and farming life in Devon.
