Exhibition Opening: Paradise Found

Join us for the opening of our new exhibition Paradise Found: New Visions of the Blackdown Hills.

An exhibition of new work by 36 painters, printmakers and photographers who have walked in the footsteps of the Camden Town Group, presented alongside works from private collections by Robert Bevan and Stanislawa de Karlowska.

This event includes an informal talk at 4pm with Patrick Baty on Stanisława De Karlowska. Patrick is the great-grandson of Karlowska. Stanislawa de Karlowska, known to her family and friends as ‘Stasia' was not a member of the Camden Town Group, a male-only exhibiting body, but was quickly elected in early 1914 to its successor, the London Group, which did not exclude women. Yet her work, which compares with that of her husband Robert Bevan, relates closely to what is thought of as Camden Town painting, using a modern post-impressionist style with bright colours to depict the local urban environment, the growing industrial landscape, and the countryside.

Curated by Tim Craven, Sandra Higgins and Fiona McIntyre.

3-5pm (talk at 4pm). RSVP by 15 March: info@thelmahulbert.com
