Residency Exhibition exploring the secret world of soil

 Without soil there would be no life. Healthy soils are not only essential for the production of our food, timber and fibres but are vital to our global eco-system. That is why the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW) commissioned 13 artists to explore it for the United Nations International Year of Soils 2015.

The artists’ residencies took place in the South West and London.  The resulting exhibition of the artists’ fascinating work is now touring the country. It comes to THG following time at Hauser & Wirth, Somerset and the Eden Project, Cornwall.

Of the 12 residencies, 9 were selected through an open call that attracted 655 applications from across the world. This diverse exhibition brings to life the science behind soil, as well as celebrates its beauty.
