The beekeeper & the bee by Kate Lynch

11 May 2013 to 29 June 2013

Kate Lynch spent nearly three years shadowing local beekeepers and their bees. Her expressive charcoal drawings and atmospheric oil paintings chronicle the seasonal work of the beekeepers, from the first opening of the hive in spring, through the busy summer, with the capture of a swarm and the spinning of honey, and into busy sheds in the winter, where we witness the weaving of a bee skep. The portraits of the beekeepers at work are interspersed with paintings of the bees foraging on hedgerow flowers, crops and blossom.

An accompanying signed book is available for £15 from the gallery or + p&p.

Join Kate Lynch for 'Bees and Flowers' a family drop-in workshop on Thursday 30 May 11am-4pm.

Alongside the artworks Kate also recorded conversations with the beekeepers, their words accompany the pictures as text and sound recordings which will play in the gallery.
