A life-size knitted and crocheted garden.
This 3D garden created by over 5,000 volunteers comes to THG as part of a national tour. The gallery is blooming with flowers, vegetables, animals, insects and even a knitted picnic!
The Blooming Marvellous garden initially climbed, creeped and blossomed over three floors of Bournemouth Library. The aim of the project was to allow individuals and groups of all ages and abilities to participate in a community project, where knitting and crochet were explored as an art form and the skills handed down through the generations. Knitters and crocheters aged 2 – 99 created this 3D garden and it has also featured on the BBC’s The One Show.
As the garden tours the UK, local people at each exhibition venue add further knitted or crocheted pieces so it continues to grow and flourish like a real garden.
We welcome knitted/crocheted donations. We also have knitting needles, wool and patterns at the gallery to create pieces to ‘grow the garden’ for when it moves to the next venue.
Join us for a garden party on Friday 19 May, 5-9 pm to celebrate a year of our very own community garden – part of the national Museums At Night festival.
