'Tetrapods Returned’ - Jo Lathwood and Paul Blakemore

You may remember the remarkable tetrapods created by artist Jo Lathwood for last September’s exhibition ‘Well Trodden Wrong Ways’. The exhibition investigated and documented the cultural, social and geological landscape of the East Devon’s Jurassic coast through drawing, film, sculpture and photography.

Following investigations into coastal erosion, Jo was inspired by sea defences to create these geometric structures from local stone (clay, sandstone, gypsum, salt, chalk) found on the beaches along the Jurassic coast. It was always Jo’s intention to return the tetrapods back to the sea to dissolve.

This film created by her collaborator, photographer Paul Blakemore, shows the final stage of their journey as they are returned to the waters from which they came.
