A Space One Removed takes place between scheduled exhibitions at THG.
The gallery space will become (in an abstracted sense), a space once removed from both studio and gallery, a fluid space subject to change.
‘Tough & Tender’ a labour of love are documents of an amaryllis, an extensive series of black & white photographs by artist Liz Nicol during the strange times of the pandemic - portraits of Nicol’s mum in her absence.
Visit the gallery space 11am -5pm to view the photographs and exchange ideas whilst photographs are placed on walls, forming sequences, testing and playing with ideas. The dialogue will inform the process of making sense of this project; transferring the material evidence of an intense and personal enquiry in to a more public context.
Liz Nicol ‘I’m interested in conversations, not only silent conversations between myself and the photographs, but between you, the visitor, the photographs and myself. Conversations will be promoted by contact prints, prints, enlargements, photographs from the family archive, texts, sounds, and phone photographs which act as a memory sketchbook.'
Join us for an orchestrated conversation at 4pm every day between Liz Nicol and guests:
- Wednesday 16 August: Angela Avis, psychotherapist
- Thursday 17 August: Louise Short, artist
- Friday 18 August: Ruth Gooding, curator
- Saturday 19 August: closing event
